PACS Administrator is responsible for the daily operations of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems. Oversees equipment maintenance and systems testing, upgrading, and installing. Being a PACS Administrator acts as a liaison between the Radiology department and customers. Maintains positive vendor relationship. Additionally, PACS Administrator requires a bachelor's degree. Requires a certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The PACS Administrator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. The PACS Administrator will be responsible for supporting and managing multiple PACS systems across CharterCARE. They must demonstrate a complete understanding of these systems, and how they interact/interface with the various RIS. Must have a strong understanding networking, interfacing, system integrations, and key medical imaging workflows.
Qualifications:
1. Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology or equivalent experience and/or knowledge of computer systems, network technologies, database management and medical imaging technologies and connectivity.
2. Skills:
• Excellent customer service skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and vendors.
• Ability to provide instruction to stand on computer functionality.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to discuss technical concepts with non-technical users including physicians, hospital staff, computer vendors and system users.
• Able to work independently and in large teams, as well as maintain a positive attitude and knowledge share with team members.
• Able to deliver results with minimum supervision.
3. Experience
• Five plus years of combined radiology and computer system experience to gain a complete working knowledge of all aspects of radiology operations.
• Five plus years of experience in the areas of PACS and RIS support and implementation.
Duties / Responsibilities:
• Manage and execute IT business and technology needs for Radiology & Cardiology PACS systems.
• Strategic execution of department wide business & information technology related initiatives.
• Provide system administration for all aspects of the APCS/RIS systems.
• Critical thinking and decision-making skills, able to prioritize, and respond quickly to requests.
• Develops, implements and maintains PACS policy and procedures collaboratively with the IT and Radiology Management to ensure system efficiency and security compliance.
• Mentor, and train the PACS Coordinator team.
• Coordinate with onsite PACS Coordinators to configure systems and provide maintenance.
• Develops, maintains, and manages the PACS information and image systems through system administration functions.
• Acts as liaison between Radiology and other departments regarding RIS and PACS system development and problems.
• Leads PACS system performance and status meetings including vendors, management and system users.
• Develops and provides RIS and PACS orientation and training and/or in-service programs as needed for all levels of Radiology personnel. Provides similar services for other users as required.
• Coordinates the customization and upgrading of software through direct interaction with RIS and PACS vendors.
• Prepares and institutes backup system for down time with the assistance of TI and Radiology management.
• Maintains system documentation and log records.
• Provides statistical and operational reports as required.
• Monitors radiographic images as a quality control measure.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations.
• Supports and conducts one's self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.
