PACS Administrator is responsible for the daily operations of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems. Oversees equipment maintenance and systems testing, upgrading, and installing. Being a PACS Administrator acts as a liaison between the Radiology department and customers. Maintains positive vendor relationship. Additionally, PACS Administrator requires a bachelor's degree. Requires a certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The PACS Administrator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a PACS Administrator typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.   • General Summary:

    Responsible for the daily operations of the Picture Archiving and Communications Systems and Radiology Information System (PACS and RIS).

    Reports to the Imaging Director

     

     

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

    Example of Essential Duties: 

    1. Responsible for maintain, managing, and troubleshooting the PACS/ RIS equipment.
    2. Managing and implementing the storage of all received digital images.
    3. Developing and planning strategies, and providing technical support.
    4. Training end users and designing programs to improve management of the system.
    5. Install, configure and administer the connection of modalities in the existing network.
    6. Responsible for the administration of user profiles.
    7. Manage supplier relationships and maintaining technology.
    8. Collaborate with the IT infrastructure team to communicate storage and computer needs for the PACS/RIS application.

     

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Required:

    • Master the basics of medical technology.
    • Knowledge of the HL7 / DICOM standards in theory and practice.
    • Basic knowledge of database structures and can create database queries.
    • Understanding of diagnostic images and workflows with Electronic Health Record and Radiology Information Systems.
    • Basic knowledge of current server operating systems, virtual environments and networks.
    • Structured and independent way of working.
    • Basic knowledge of radiology modality worklists, and image transfer  into PACS
    • Experience with Imaging Informatics.
    • Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame.  
    • Seeks additional appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed. 
    • Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles.
