Orthopedic Technician applies and adjusts plaster casts and assembles and attaches orthopedic traction equipment and devices as directed by a physician. Sets up bed traction units or rigs special devices as required, and inspects and adjusts bandages and equipment. Being an Orthopedic Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent, completion of Orthopedic Technician training and certification program. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Patient Care Technician, Senior to support our Night Program in the Orthopedic Unit at the McCandless location. Employees in the Night Program are allotted an additional $2 per hour, on top of the current off-shift differential. Must have at least 6 months of experience to qualify.
The Patient Care Technician, Senior is a valued step in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and patient care experience. You must have at least 6 months of experience or be a nursing student with at least one clinical to be eligible for the Night Program.
Hours:
Our Full-Time Night PCTs typically work three 12-hour evening and overnight shifts. Hours may vary by unit. Candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.
Purpose:
The Patient Care Technician, Senior provides routine patient care and supports the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures, and may be directed by the nurse or physician to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients. PLUS point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs), clean catch/mini catheter urine collection. In addition, simple dressings, 12 lead EKG, bladder scan, all specimen collections. All competencies must be achieved.
