Organizational Development Director directs the design, planning, and implementation of corporate organizational development programs, policies, and procedures. Approves change management initiatives and suggests enhancements to existing programs. Being an Organizational Development Director oversees the development of programs to build human capital and a strong employee development culture. Reviews key performance metrics to enable accurate and valid measurement of workforce performance and to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, Organizational Development Director proposes changes to organizational structure to leverage talent and provide development opportunities to key leaders in the organization. Develops systematic collection and evaluation of performance metrics. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Organizational Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Organizational Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Development Director – Campus of Life is an experienced major gift’s role within TERI’s growing development team. This key member has a focus on both the Capital Campaign and supporting development projects, with the primary objective to grow the external support network of donors, influencers, and partnerships.

    A Development Director is a frontline member of the team to expand the TERI community and cultivate, solicit, and recognize major gifts. These high-relationship development skills contribute to the TERI mission by promoting engagements with philanthropic individuals, community groups, business owners and corporations, and like-minded organizations. Other leadership roles include communications support, project management, and reporting. 

    TERI's Campus of Life provides transformative support opportunities for our students, their families, and the Special Needs Community with its extensive educational, enrichment, and vocational opportunities. This position will directly impact San Diego’s special needs community and the wonderful people we serve! 

    Your primary focus is to be a catalyst in building this first-of-its-kind TERI Campus of Life to support, integrate, and empower an inclusive and integrated community for all!


    Salary Range: Based on Experience $85,000 - $100,000

    Full-time Position: M-F, occasional Weekend and Evening availability as needed.

    Flexible Work Schedule: This position allows for pre-approved flexible work hours, both at home and in-office, in agreement with the Chief Development Officer and needs of the team.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    1. Donor Development and Fundraising Portfolio Management – 90%
    • Under the guidance of the Chief Development Officer (CDO), develop and manage a dynamic donor portfolio of 80 – 110 individual and corporate donors, with primary focus on TERI’s multi-million-dollar Campus of Life Capital Campaign.
    • Grow a donor portfolio of existing and newly identified prospects within a high-relationship and efficient system of new donor acquisition and development (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and recognition).
    • Maximize personal communication and time allocation to achieve progressive engagements with current and prospective donors, partnerships, and special event guests. 
    • Qualify new major and planned gift prospects and solicit initial major gifts (> $1000)
    • Engage with all departments to research, identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects capable of making transformational gifts ($25,000 to $1,000,000).
    • Develop donor relationships to accomplish their philanthropic goals through TERI.
    • Communications:  Provide input to the monthly external and internal Development communications and PR plans to increase TERI mission awareness, stimulate philanthropic support, and expand our influence in the region.
    • Major Events: Assist in key development events in the Campus Campaign Fundraising, Major Donor Stewardship, and Community Fundraising 
    • Portfolio Management: Manage donor interactions, solicitations, and reporting via the TERI Bloomerang CRM and collaborate with all stakeholders to implement a common voice and donor development strategy in TERI communications and activities.
    • Support organization-wide activities and TERI Program events as appropriate.

    First Year Priorities include:

    • Personalized Major Gift Training with CDO
      • Establish new philanthropic connections for collaboration and support for the growing Campus of Life 
      • Teamed donor visits for discovery, stewardship, and proposal meetings
      • Expand portfolio for first year fundraising outcomes of $300,000 to $500,000.
      • On-going development leadership mentoring and major gift portfolio support

    We would love it if you could demonstrate transferable skills to support this role:

    • Four (4) or more years of demonstrated successful experience in all aspects of fundraising or business development with a service or nonprofit organization.
    • Ability to successfully engage, acquire, and develop new major donors ($5000 ) and key community supporters, with demonstrated success in soliciting 6-figure capital gifts.
    • Results-oriented accountability to TERI annual strategic fundraising goals and priorities, building to a future annual portfolio value of more than $500,000.
    • Strategic input to the annual Development Plan as a catalyst to the completion of the Campus of Life Capital Campaign
    • Discipline in “moves management,” CRM record-keeping and reporting, and plans for long-term stewardship strategies.
    • Successful individual and corporate donor fundraising outcomes across the full spectrum of development activities specific to capital campaigns, major gifts, planned gifts and endowments, and major donor recognition.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills combined with the highest standards in teamwork, collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and positivity. 
    • Ability to organize time effectively to prioritize a wide variety of relationship-building and stewardship engagements.
    • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing philanthropic fund development and compliance. Highest standards of ethical conduct and adherence to AFP Code of Ethics and Donors Bill of Rights.

    Other Qualifications: DOJ and FBI criminal clearance required and a minimum of 3 years’ acceptable driving history.

    • BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university or an equivalent combination of education, CFRE credential, or fundraising experience required.
