Organizational Development Director directs the design, planning, and implementation of corporate organizational development programs, policies, and procedures. Approves change management initiatives and suggests enhancements to existing programs. Being an Organizational Development Director oversees the development of programs to build human capital and a strong employee development culture. Reviews key performance metrics to enable accurate and valid measurement of workforce performance and to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, Organizational Development Director proposes changes to organizational structure to leverage talent and provide development opportunities to key leaders in the organization. Develops systematic collection and evaluation of performance metrics. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Organizational Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Organizational Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Director of Training & Organizational Development

    Designs and delivers training programs to enhance the development of leaders and employees in
    the organization, including management training.

    Responsibilities:

    Customer Relations

    • Actively seeks to provide quality services that meet the needs of patients and clients as well as other identified customers - employees, applicants, supervisors, vendors, other employers, and regulatory agencies.
    • Demonstrates commitment to confidentiality and fairness in all staff communications. 
    • Represents HR on various Health System committees as requested.

    Employee Recognition and Services

    • Develops content for & facilitates Welcome Day for new staff and volunteers.
    • Develops and implements employee recognition and reward programs and activities that support organizational pride and sense of community.
    • Deploys HR initiatives to help foster positive employee relations, including employee picnics, Oriole night, training sessions, workshops, and focus groups.

    Performance Management

    • Participates in organizational strategic planning and provides leadership for Performance Management policy and appraisal processes. Manages the maintenance and execution of the performance management system.
    • Researches and assists in the development of Performance Management training programs that focus on enabling the workforce to achieve improvements with priority organizational concerns.
    • Oversee all aspects of Sheppard Pratt’s performance management processes and policies.
    • Through subordinates, ensure all appropriate management staff document performance issues and complete performance appraisals for all staff within specified timeframes and according to appropriate Sheppard Pratt policies.

    Employee Development & Training

    • Designs, develops, facilitates, and implements training programs that support the organization’s core values and mission.
    • Coordinates annual training activities to assure that all staff maintain identified competencies through on-line and in person training and post-tests.
    • Build and develop structures that facilitate career development and succession planning.
    • Develops skills of leaders to coach and mentor staff.
    • Incorporates a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion into training programs, in line with the organizations commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

    Performance Management

    • Oversee all aspects of Sheppard Pratt’s performance management processes and policies.
    • Through subordinates, ensure all appropriate management staff document performance issues and complete performance appraisals for all staff within specified timeframes and according to appropriate Sheppard Pratt policies.

    Staff Supervision & Development

    • Mentors and develops subordinates.
    • Selects, trains, directs, and evaluates the job performance of assigned staff. Has a significant role in disciplinary decisions and processes when required.
    • Identifies and addresses training needs related to the training and organizational development functions.
    • Provides support, consultation, and training to staff to assure consistent and efficient department practices.
    • Confers with senior management to present training and organizational development strategies and statistics and performance management information.
    • Serves as a high level resource for other HR Directors; providing expertise and assistance across all HR functions when necessary.
    • Demonstrates proficiency of SHRM competencies for Sheppard Pratt HR Directors.

    Requirements:

    1. Work requires comprehensive knowledge of human resources management, related employment law, basic statistics, and management theories, as well as the ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing - acquired through a Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business administration, or closely related field.  Master’s degree preferred.  SHRM, HRCI or related certifications preferred.
    2. Work requires at 7-10 years of diversified, professional human resources experience with an emphasis on training and/or organizational development, demonstrated knowledge of human resources and department operations, and supervisory skills.   2-5 years of management experience required.
    3. Work requires a high level of interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with senior management, manage staff, conduct workshops and trainings, answer inquiries, explain policies and procedures in difficult situations, and effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.
    4. Work requires analytical ability sufficient to develop effective strategies, develop workflow processes, extract information from written material, observation, and interviews to process recruitment and retention statistics, including turnover and vacancy rates.  Must be able to anticipate problems/complications and develop solutions.
    5. Position requires attention to detail and concentration, working long periods at computer screen, meeting tight deadlines, and very frequently produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue.
