Job Description:
- Performs radiation protection/health physics engineering and project management duties including maintaining minimum staffing levels, scheduling, budgeting, and oversight to ensure the program and implementation meet all legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements
- Provides technical, consulting and project management leadership and participates as a technical consultant and/or project manager
- Provides effective leadership for junior and field personnel; provides guidance regarding radiation levels and appropriate controls; reports measurements exceeding safe levels, or any other radiological problem, and recommends corrective action
- Responsible for the safety of those being supervised and ensures they comply with established safety policies and procedures; all on-site personnel are required to practice safe work habits
- Duties may include the development and review of radiological training and determining appropriate preventative measures to limit exposure of site personnel
- Participates in data collection and analysis, documentation, report preparations, etc. and ensures compliance with contractual and environmental laws and regulations; enhances radiological safety by contributing to the improvement of policies and procedures
- Prepares survey and release plans for facilities and equipment
- Evaluates materials and equipment for unrestricted release
- Performs personnel dose assessments
- Provides technical guidance in interpreting standards
- Performs audits and assessments of functional areas of the radiological program
- Development and maintenance of internal and external dosimetry program
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Candidate must have experience and possess a thorough understanding of radiological jobsite procedures, operations and policies including, but not limited to, MARSSIM and other federal agency procedures and requirements
- Current HAZWOPER training and certification
- Minimum 5 years of relevant radiological and program management experience
- Proven supervisory skills and a leadership style that promotes teamwork, innovation, and results
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Intermediate PC skills including Microsoft software
- Strong math/science skills/aptitude
Education/Experience Requirements:
- BS/BA degree in Health Physics, Engineering, Science or Math or a related field
- Five (5) or more years of operational health physics experience in the field
- Experience managing a team, preferably in a radiological setting
- Must have experience planning/organizing jobs from start to finish
- Strong technical and project management experience
- Must pass drug screen, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
Working Conditions:
- Work is completed in an environmental restoration atmosphere – potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents, or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed
- Must have the ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment, as required, to enter various types of potentially hazardous environments
- Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively, potential prolonged standing and walking, repeated pushing/pulling
- Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching
- Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise and areas with radiation and chemical hazards (all personal protective equipment will be provided to ensure the safest working conditions)
- Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes and possible inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.)
- May be required to operate company vehicles – all safety and DOT/traffic regulations and procedures must be followed at all times
Salary: will be commensurate with experience.
NOTE: candidates may be offered a full-time, regular employment position after successful completion of a probationary period.
