Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager.     No prior medical or technician experience necessary - the doctor himself will teach you everything you need to know.

    As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting the doctor in providing quality eye care to our patients. Your expertise and attention to detail will contribute to the overall success of our practice.

    Responsibilities:
    - Perform preliminary eye examinations and tests, including visual acuity, lensometry, and tonometry
    - Administer eye drops and medications as directed by the ophthalmologist
    - Conduct diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, fundus photography and OCT scans
    - Assist with minor surgical procedures, including preparing surgical instruments and maintaining sterile conditions
    - Educate patients on proper eye care and contact lens use
    - Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
    - Coordinate patient appointments and manage patient flow in the clinic
    - Provide exceptional customer service to patients, addressing their concerns and answering their questions

    Skills you will learn:
    - Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
    - Familiarity with optical equipment and instruments used in eye examinations
    - Knowledge of anatomy related to the eye and ocular diseases
    - Excellent patient care skills, including taking vital signs and documenting medical history
    - Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
    - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
    - Comfortable working at the front desk, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow
