Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. Our Ophthalmology department is currently hiring for an Ophthalmic Technician / Surgical Technician. This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma.
EXPERIENCE: Valid proof of certification as an ophthalmic assistant or surgical technologist preferred but not required. Valid CPR certification.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space. Exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to clinic setting.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift and move equipment up to 30 lbs.
