Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. New management team at Northern Ophthalmic Associates is seeking dedicated Ophthalmic Technicians to join our team!
As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in assisting our ophthalmologists & optometrist in providing high-quality eye care to our patients.
Responsibilities:
- Perform patient work ups including visual acuity, lensometry, tonometry, etc.
- Administer diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, OCT, Fundus Photo, etc.
- Collect and document patient medical history and current medications
- Prepare patients for examinations.
- Provide patient education on contact lens care, eye health, and post-operative care.
- Assist with front desk duties such as scheduling appointments and verifying insurance coverage.
Experience:
- Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or similar role preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing processes and insurance coding is a plus!
- Familiarity with optical equipment and instruments used in eye examinations.
- Proficient in using electronic medical record systems.
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
