Eye Consultants of North Dakota is currently hiring for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Ophthalmic Technician.
Position Summary:
The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for accurately and efficiently performing data collection, measurements and tests as delegated by the provider to allow for proper diagnosis of patient conditions. They are expected to welcome patients and establish rapport with them to instill confidence in the care they’re receiving. Technicians also assist in training and mentoring less experienced clinical staff. This position requires initiative, flexibility, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and will require the employee to work independently. All employees are expected to comply with state/national rules and regulations and maintain the safety and privacy of all.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Open exam and specialized testing rooms at the beginning of the shift, ensure all equipment is clean and ready.
- Welcome and establish rapport with all patients. Initiate patient evaluation and accurately document the chief complaint, history, review of systems and all pertinent ocular findings.
- Perform pre-exam tests as indicated and ordered by the provider including but not limited to a visual acuity assessment, confrontation visual field testing, assessment of extra ocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, dilation, pachymetry, photography, visual fields, corneal topography, OCT’s, lensometry, biometry, and other tests as directed by the provider.
- Acquaint all patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
- Assist with procedure setup and performing in office procedures and laser treatments.
- Check and document the temperature of medical refrigerator(s) daily.
- Clean surgical instruments and complete sterilization process. Inspect equipment for damage and repair/replace as necessary.
- Calibrate diagnostic equipment per manufacture guidelines.
- Clean all equipment and close exam rooms and specialized testing rooms at the end of the day.
- Check expiration dates and inventory levels of necessary supplies and stock as needed.
- Participate in trainings and meetings as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant preferred.
- COT, COA or COMT credential preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills: personable and empathetic with patient’s needs and concerns.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to perform basic computer skills and use basic computer programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Well organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to recognize problems and provide solutions.
- Experience and knowledge of EHR systems and ability to use them efficiently preferred.
- Ability to work as a contributing member of a team.
