Ophthalmic Technician jobs in Mishawaka, IN

Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. Ophthalmic Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    Hours: Full Time; Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

    Responsibilities

    The Journeys and Adventures that Await

     

    • Performs refractions to determine vision changes and prescriptions for eyewear.
    • Monitors patient flow to keep physicians on schedule.
    • Demonstrates the ability to correctly perform the following:  ancillary testing, visual fields, a-scan, fundus photography, corneal topography, and corneal pachymetry.
    • Demonstrates the ability to correctly document the patient history and medication in the medical record.
    • Demonstrates the ability to respond to messages in a timely manner, according to clinic policy.
    • Provides patient instructions per physician and seeks understanding from patient.
    • Stays abreast of current changes and continually seeks to enhance skills, stays current in CEU’s.
    • Assists physicians with laser and surgical/technical procedures.
    • Triages patient acuity and schedules appointments.
    • Monitors patient flow to keep physicians on schedule.
    • Observes department conditions and activities taking appropriate action to deliver a positive patient experience.
    • Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.
    • Takes initiative to seek out tasks and duties and/or assist others as necessary.

    Qualifications

    Education/Certification/License: 

          Ophthalmic Tech training and/or certification(s) are required.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Previous ophthalmic experience is preferred.  Must be detail oriented individual with strong human relations and organizational skills.
