Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. We are a fast-paced, growing optometry office that has been serving Jefferson County since 2003. We just recently remodeled and expanded our facility. We strive to have wonderful relationships with our patients. We value associates who have a passion for patient care and work well within a team environment. Prior experience is a plus, but not necessary as we are willing to train someone with great customer service skills, an enthusiastic personality and the ability to learn quickly. Must be available to work during our business hours (Monday&Tuesday 8-5, Wednesday 8-1, Thursday 8-5)
Basic Function:
This role assists the Optometrist with all types of eye exams and appointments to keep the office running smoothly and efficiently. This includes a variety of patient care tasks, including preparation of patients to be seen by the doctor, performance of diagnostic tests, and appropriate documentation. Optometric Technicians play a key role in ensuring that our patients have a rewarding experience.
This position also provides office support such as verifying insurance benefits, filing claims, billing, and assisting patients with appointments.
