Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager.   • JOB SUMMARY:

    Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, Ophthalmic technician for the Refractive Surgery Center assists with laser vision correction procedures, performs diagnostic testing on laser vision patients and maintains equipment. Performs Diagnostic studies such as: Wavescan, Pentacam and IOL master measurements. Calibrates Lasers, changes and refills all gasses for the lasers. Will prepare equipment and rooms for procedures. Will assist the Manager of the center with promotion and outreach as assigned. Will provide superior customer service to our patients, physicians and family members. Responsible for completing all orientation and education programs as directed by manager.

    EDUCATION:

    HS diploma or equivalent required, (COA) preferred, and previous ophthalmic technician experience required.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to assist on Yag, Argon and Intac procedures.
    Performance of diagnostic studies: Wavescan, Pentacam and IOL master measurements
    Ability to use a personal computer with experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
