Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager.     THE OPPORTUNITY AT HAND

    We’re looking for passionate and empathetic people to join our team as Ophthalmic Techs. Our Techs are responsible for all the pre-exam elements of the patient visit. This includes gathering and documenting patient information and history and conducting routine and ancillary patient testing. You’ll play a vital role in the patients experience with OCLI and in helping our Dr’s to diagnose and treat eye disorders.


    OUR EXPECTATIONS OF YOU


    • You’ll test and record patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception
    • You’ll apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes and collect and process specimens for testing
    • You’ll triage emergency cases appropriately into physicians’ schedule and maintain patient flow
    • You’ll prepare patient and procedure room and assist ophthalmologist with procedures as needed
    • You’ll perform first level maintenance on equipment and notify the office manager of any equipment malfunctions
    • You will be expected to utilize, as appropriate, infection control techniques and universal precautions, and to maintain confidentiality at all times

    • You’re knowledgeable in ocular pharmacology such as anesthetics, steroids, antibiotics, mydriatics and cycloplegics, epinephrine, miotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories is a PLUS, but not a requirement
    • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
