Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. We are a team of MD's (ophthalmologists), OD's (optometrists), CO's (orthoptists), techs, and opticians, all working together to provide the best possible eye care to our patients in a fun, caring environment. The basics of the job would entail: checking visual acuity, pupils, basic eye alignment, taking a focussed history, and putting dilating drops in the kids eyes. Happy to teach on the job. Certification would be great, but not an absolute must. Experience a plus. Curiosity, a willingness to learn, the ability to show up on time, professionalism, and an interest in working with kids are all mandatory.
