Ophthalmic Technician provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Being an Ophthalmic Technician prepares patients for exams and procedures. Operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Additionally, Ophthalmic Technician may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Typically requires an associate degree. May require Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA). May require Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT). Typically reports to a manager. Ophthalmic Technician
The ophthalmic technician position is one where you get to work directly with patients and often with the physicians in delivering care to our patients. Our technicians report high levels of satisfaction with their roles because they get to help save people’s sight each day. Prolonged sitting up to 8 hours a day; stand and walk; talk and hear both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
