Position Description
The St. James is seeking an Operations Supervisor at its flagship location in Springfield, Virginia.
The Operations supervisor will report directly into the Operations Manager at The St. James. Operations supervisor will have the primary responsibility of set-up and striking, daily maintenance, and upkeep over 450,000 square feet of sports/events venues. Operations supervisor will work closely with sports, events, and custodial department staff in completing preparation, service, and strike of all related activities in a timely manner.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily work activities of the Operations staff to ensure task completion
- Assists in the interviews, selection, and recommendation of candidates for Operations staff
- Conducts orientation and training of all new full and part-time operations staff in all aspects of event set-up/striking and custodial services for each venue by training crew members how to organize and correctly set up for sports practices/events, meetings, rentals, etc.
- Conducts the training and supervision of use for all motorized equipment used in the department
- Ensures all building space and facilities, i.e. storage areas, event spaces, equipment closets, etc. are properly cleaned, maintained, and stocked.
- Assigns crewmember activities based on weekly work schedule published by the Operations Manager
- Serves as the point of contact and liaison for work order requests by other departments
- Assists with review and quality assessments of supplies and equipment used by the department to ensure the best product for the cost.
- Prepares and submits weekly inventory and quality control reports for custodial supplies and equipment used in the department
- Responsible for preparation of all work flow records for the department to include checklists, orientation/training completion, equipment sign-out/in, end of shift reports, etc.
- Works in conjunction with the Operations Manager when identifying performance improvement and disciplinary actions.
- Assists in completion of seasonal performance reviews of full-time and part-time Operations staff
- Responsible for accepting/distributing/storing deliveries of equipment, including items brough in by rental groups
- Oversees and monitors activities of temporary labor staff for the department
- Coordinates with staff to identify and resolve challenges; supervise completion of special projects and initiatives; monitor work flow; review and evaluate job completion, methods, and procedures through regular department crew meetings.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Operations Manager and/or Department of Operations
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Other Requirements:
- Must have good organizational and planning skills
- Must have working knowledge of various sports/entertainment activities
- Must have ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making skills.
- Two years of experience as crew supervisor, manager or assistant manager in a sports or entertainment venue responsible for overseeing event set-ups/tear-downs, custodial and operational services.
- Ability to plan, layout, assign work and work areas to employees.
- Must have ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and stress.
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work well under stress and exercise good judgment, diplomacy, courtesy and tact under all circumstances.
- Must have ability to use tools, resources, and knowledge in order to accomplish multiple tasks in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, nights, weekends and holidays when required.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires a full range of body motions including seeing and hearing to normal range.
- Job requires routine standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing and visually checking work assignments in progress and those that have been completed.
- Must periodically climb to elevated locations in the building complex.
- Must be able to lift, carry upwards of sixty-five (65) pounds
- Frequently works under stressful working conditions, irregular hours and tight time deadlines.
