What makes this role unique? 

• Oversee all EOS functions ensuring timely and accurate environmental monitoring and assessment in support of agency and program priorities.
• Manage section budget and monitor expenditures; approve leave, timesheets, training requests, travel expense vouchers, and purchasing requests.
• Evaluate section staffing needs, initiate personnel actions, prepare position descriptions and essential functions analyses, arrange training and professional development opportunities, evaluate staff performance, and initiate or recommend corrective actions.
• Manage recruiting and hiring of staff in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement by and between the State of Washington and Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) and with civil service rules.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with professional and managerial staff of government agencies and external stakeholder groups.
• Present complex technical materials to diverse audiences, including senior management and the public.
• Assure the long-term storage, archival, maintenance, and public access of quality assured data collected or derived by section staff.
• Be responsible for all safety, health, and environmental control issues, including compliance with state and federal laws relating to employee safety and hazardous waste disposal.

Required Qualifications:

Option 1: 

A Bachelor of Science degree in natural or environmental sciences, or related field. 

Option 2: 

A Master's degree in natural or environmental sciences, or related field. 

AND 

Four (4) years of professional level work experience in environmental monitoring, research, or management. 

Option 3: 

A PhD. involving a major study in natural or environmental sciences, or related field. 

AND 

Three (3) years of professional level work experience in environmental monitoring, research, or management.
