Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Production Section Manager at our Zanesville, Ohio operation. This role is responsible for taking on leading roles in managing product flow, equipment operations and employee performance so that the products conform to customer requirements and productivity meets business needs. The ideal candidate will have a high level of organization, and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Be a champion of safety. Coordinate the safety activities in Operations areas. Manage disposition of all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, all safety observations and contacts for salary and hourly personnel. Assist with safety meetings. Develop safety goals and objectives for Shift Managers.
Supervise and monitor job performance of Shift Managers versus departmental goals.
Assist in development of Operations goals and objectives.
Assist in selecting and training backups and replacements.
Manage departmental labor relations with union representatives to resolve disputes at first and second step of the grievance procedure. Act as the department contact for outside vendors and suppliers of materials used in the section. Reviews problems with them, gather information, and begin the purchase procedure.
Coordinate activities on engineering jobs. Attend engineering meetings and act as the department contact on projects.
Interact with Planners in Maintenance Control to schedule work done by the Maintenance Shops. Initiate job orders for Shops work.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be self-directed, highly motivated, and able to manage a complex workforce.
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and time-management skills.
Strong leadership skills with significant management experience including safety, quality, cost management, budgeting and maintenance effectiveness.
5-8 years supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing union environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in a technical discipline.
Specific knowledge/experience in a steelmaking facility.
