The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is seeking a motivated, team-oriented leader to manage a talented section of policy and technical staff developing and implementing programs to reduce greenhouse gas and other emissions from the energy sector. California’s ability to meet its ambitious climate targets and air quality goals relies heavily on a clean, affordable, and reliable electricity grid to support deep decarbonization across the State’s economy. This is a key pillar of the State’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality and depends on both using energy more efficiently and replacing fossil-fueled generation with renewable and zero carbon resources.
Within the context of these broader State goals, the Energy Section in the Industrial Strategies Division is responsible for development, implementation, and support of policy and technical strategies to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the energy sector with a focus on the electricity grid, renewable fuels, and other alternatives to fossil natural gas including hydrogen. Key activities of the section include regulation development and implementation; supporting development of a comprehensive report on the development, deployment, and use of hydrogen across all sectors as a part of achieving the State’s energy, climate, and air quality goals; contributing to statewide policy efforts pertaining to the electricity grid and renewable fuels; and providing technical input on emission-control and energy-generating technologies.
