The Manager of Online Education applies adult learning instructional design principles and project management best practices to facilitate, deliver, and evaluate educational products in various online formats.
This position includes technical and administrative duties related to the Learning Management System (LMS), reviews existing and new LMS functionality, recommends appropriate changes, and serves as the primary resource for internal and external customer service needs related to education technology and programming.
This position works closely with the Professional Development and Education Committee (PDEC) and the departments of information technology, meeting logistics, and marketing/communications.
The Manager, Online Education manages volunteers, speakers and subject matter experts. This position also provides related committee and budget management support to the Director, Online Education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Education Development, Delivery, and Evaluation
Program development
- Facilitate education product development projects in collaboration with subject matter experts, applying instructional design and adult learning principles to deliver products that address the educational needs identified by PDEC and other member leaders.
- Manage all elements of the project lifecycle of assigned education projects, including needs assessments, design, delivery, implementation, evaluation, updating, and/or sunsetting.
- Use project management best practices and tools (Teamwork) to plan and monitor projects.
- Participate in the strategic development of new educational products.
- Coordinate the development of ancillary materials, such as job aids, participant assessments, user guides, and other supplemental materials.
Online education management
- Manage the infrastructure for ARVO’s online education program, including the LMS, Teamwork project planning, content catalogs, reports, and other multimedia materials.
- Manage the speaker permission process and facilitate the content capture and management of the digital content.
- Liaise with LMS vendors regarding ongoing system management, updates, and potential new features.
- Manage online education program evaluation activities and develop reports to inform future planning by staff and member committees.
Committees/Working Groups
- Serve as secondary staff liaison to the Professional Development and Education Committee and education working groups established to support specific projects.
- Work with other committees as assigned.
Operations/Administrative
- Implement, monitor, evaluate and update project plans, timelines, and standard operating procedures as needed and/or assigned. Provide operational support such as information gathering, report generation, monitoring trends, data analysis, etc.
- Assist in drafting and monitoring the annual budget for online education and online events/conferences
- Provide internal and external customer service in the areas of responsibility, serving as the key point person for education to ARVO’s customer service and meeting logistics staff.
- Provide relevant content to marketing/communications staff for the website, e-communications, print, and other promotional outlets.
- Use ARVO’s Content Management System (CMS) to create and maintain web pages assigned to the education department.
- Other duties as assigned to further support the organization.
PROFICIENCIES
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of three years experience, preferably in a scientific/research association
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including editing and proofing
- Superior attention to detail
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of products and the ability to work under competing deadlines
- Fluency in data analysis using Excel tools (pivot tables, XLOOKUP) and being able to analyze and present findings
- Proven critical thinking and analysis skills and ability to use data to develop insights and strategies
- Experience with content management systems, learning management systems, online development tools, and multimedia platforms
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively (remote and in-person) with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment
- Experience working with and managing volunteer subject matter experts.
- Familiarity with Teamwork or similar project management tools.
- Ability to travel to support meetings as needed.
- Ability to work shift work hours occasionally to support a global audience.
Considered a plus:
- Basic understanding of HTML
- Experience with video and photo editing tools (Camtasia, Photshop) and profiency with Articulate 360 suite
- Experience with CrowdWisdom Learning Management System
- Experience managing accredited continuing education activities (ACCME)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
