Oncology Services Director plans and directs all aspects of an organization's oncology services policies, standards, and programs. Responsible for strategic clinical relationships with physicians and interns. Being an Oncology Services Director ensures oncology clinical programs are in compliance with all applicable regulations. Researches and studies current medical publications and data on new treatments and practices to ensure high quality clinical service offerings. Additionally, Oncology Services Director advises non-medical management on clinical and patient related matters and policies. Requires a MD. Typically reports to top management. The Oncology Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Oncology Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Responsibilities

    This job is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the Pacific Northwest (PNW) Region cancer service line in accordance with professional standards of the clinical disciplines, applicable regulatory requirements and business/patient care objectives of the organization. An incumbent is instrumental in assessing, developing and implementing initiatives/activities which improve service line financial performance/productivity, maximize effective utilization of resources, enhance patient outcomes/service satisfaction of all identified customer groups and generate a competitive advantage for the PNW Region. Work also focuses on addressing/alleviating current gaps in cancer-related programs/resources in the community. An incumbent works in close collaboration with the Franciscan Medical Group and the Virginia Mason Medical Group as well as other regional departments/services lines with respect to business plan development and to coordinate services across the care continuum.


    Work also includes:

    1) representing the PNW Region on the System Oncology Clinical Institute Executive Council; 2) developing/managing the operations/capital budgets; 3) analyzing current/new service delivery models to develop change recommendations; 4) developing/implementing/monitoring quality improvement initiatives to enhance/streamline current procedures/processes and take advantage of system-wide synergies; 5) establishing and ensuring that overall objectives relating to consistency of standards and customer service are achieved; and 6) supervising assigned service line staff.


    Job duties require considerable knowledge of the specialized principles and practices related to health care management in order to evaluate and make viable recommendations for the improving health care delivery system(s) and enhancing organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Also requires knowledge of service line clinical operations and considerable management expertise relating to planning, marketing and business development, process improvement, budget administration and personnel management. Performance improvement efforts cover a variety of processes, and an incumbent must be sufficiently knowledgeable to recognize important synergies and opportunities in clinical outcomes, cost containment, patient safety/satisfaction and regulatory compliance.


    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field and seven years of progressively responsible related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including five years in a leadership/management capacity.

     

    Work experience in an acute care setting is preferred. Experience with multi-site, in- and outpatient operations is desirable. Proven track record in achieving results through a highly collaborative leadership team (providers, clinicians and managers) is essential to success.

     

    Master’s degree in healthcare administration or related field, or enrollment in a related Master’s degree program, is strongly preferred.
