Oncology Services Director plans and directs all aspects of an organization's oncology services policies, standards, and programs. JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
The Manager of the Oncology Services must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities supporting both service excellence and operational excellence as the service of choice. Collaborative leadership and staff competency development are key roles of this position.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Demonstrates strong leadership and change management consistent with organizational values and service excellence standards.
2. Manages daily operations focused on meeting budgetary requirements with a focus both on revenue enhancement through growth and on expense reduction through careful allocation of human and non-human resources using optimal patient safety and evidence-based practice as parameters.
a. Strong attention to labor requirements (safe staffing levels) and costs is required.
3. Demonstrates and promotes a collaborative environment with roles directly reporting to the manager as well as with other departmental roles (e.g., physicians, nurses, laboratory technologists, support staff and outsourced roles).
4. Actively participates in organizational leadership, quality, safety, finance and clinical groups to ensure the department is integrated into all aspects of hospital operations.
5. Utilizes effective staff evaluations and competence checks to ensure compliant work practices within the department and to support subordinate positions with opportunities for training and development as appropriate to the role.
6. Develops recommendations for budgets, staffing compliments, job descriptions, policies, procedures and other operational responsibilities for review by the Director.
7. Continuously works to develop the highest competencies with departmental software applications to facilitate efficient data documentation, data reporting and oversight of the oncology medical record system.
8. Participates in oncology-specific support activities such as tumor board, national service line conference calls, partnering organizations (e.g., American Cancer Society, Oncology Nursing Society, etc.) to increase clinical knowledge and identify opportunities for improving operational aspects within the Cancer Center.
9. Actively ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations as well as with ethical policies and directives through collaboration with peers, supervisor and the organization’s corporate compliance team.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 3 years leadership experience OR minimum of 5 years leadership experience in the discipline OR Master’s Degree and no experience
Required Licensure and Certifications: Must have current BLS certification
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of oncology patient care and support processes; basic business skills including budgeting, operating within a defined budget, reporting data relevant to operations, etc.; strong leadership skills; change management skills; critical thinking abilities.
