Oncology Services Director plans and directs all aspects of an organization's oncology services policies, standards, and programs. Responsible for strategic clinical relationships with physicians and interns. Being an Oncology Services Director ensures oncology clinical programs are in compliance with all applicable regulations. Researches and studies current medical publications and data on new treatments and practices to ensure high quality clinical service offerings. Additionally, Oncology Services Director advises non-medical management on clinical and patient related matters and policies. Requires a MD. Typically reports to top management. The Oncology Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Oncology Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     JOB SUMMARY:


     The director establishes a smooth working relationship between all support staff and providers and provides patients with friendly efficient care.  Director is responsible for coordinating daily functions of the clinic and JoAnn Poe Cancer Center.  Assists with the development and implementation of strategic planning and identifies processes that affect patient care and clinical performance.


    MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


    Education: Bachelor’s in Business Administration or a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration, or Bachelor’s in Nursing


    Experience:

    • 5 years of oncology nursing experience preferred.
    • 3 years of clinical Oncology experience required.
    • Knowledge of clinical practice, nursing administration and human relations.


    License/Certifications:

    • Current RN Licensure in appropriate state of licensure or valid license of other Oncology related discipline.
    • Current BLS Certification.
    • ACLS certification obtained within 6 months of hire.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


    Director of Oncology:


    1. Oversees navigation services, cancer registry functions, transcription services as well as clinic and chemo operations.
    2. Facilitates timely scheduling of appointments, diagnostic testing and procedures to expedite the plan of care and promote continuity of care for patients.
    3. Facilitates appropriate referrals especially during periods of high emotional stress and anxiety.
    4. Supports outreach activities and partners with community organizations/resources.
    5. Displays a commitment to quality, supports/leads organizational goals for growth or accreditation incentives.  Establishes and coordinates services necessary to meet needs of patient population served.
    6. Assists with compliance of accreditation guidelines.
    7. Communicates effectively and timely and in an open, honest manner.
    8. Supports team, and system organizational goals, and establishes strategic goals and objectives.
    9. Assesses education needs to staff.  Coordinates in service programs based on the educational needs of the staff with the Education Department. 
    10. Implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess and improve the quality of all clinical care services delivered to patients.
    11. Assists with FTE budget and expense control.
    12. Analyzes department needs/problems.  Decisive in matters requiring prompt attention.  Carefully considers alternatives before making decisions.
    13. Keeps superiors informed of department development and outcomes of problem resolution.  Reports concerns to CNO as appropriate.
    14. Understands and submits correct forms for ordering equipment, supplies, education, and expense reimbursement.
    15. Provides ongoing and annual feedback to staff on performance.
    16. Reviews department policies at least annually.  Reviews disaster/safety policies for department.  Maintains and reviews standards for TJC on an on-going basis.
    17. Adheres to the Attendance Policy based on the standard outlined in the policy.
    18. Supports the hospital and promotes a positive attitude.
    19. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
    20. Formulates procedures for retention, protection, retrieval transfer, and disposal of records.
    21. Reviews patient’s records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
    22. Manages electronic record systems as well as hospital computer system.
    23. Balances cash drawer according to the AMH procedures.
    24. Coordinates scheduling for all personnel.
    25. Responsible for compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory laws.
    26. Conducts departmental staff meetings.
    27. Provide updates to staff in a timely manner.

     

    Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.).
