Mansfield Service Partners / Select Environmental is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled
Environmental Waste Technician to join our team in
Houston, TX.
This position is responsible for performance of tasks associated with the handling of all chemical wastes in accordance with our company’s policies and procedures, as well as all applicable local, state and federal regulations. This includes, but is not limited to segregating incompatible materials, inspection of all shipping/storage containers, and storage areas, verification of all labels, markings and documentation required during the waste shipping process.
Essential Duties
- Ensures that Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance is the number one priority by following all safe work practices, policies, and processes
- Performs the characterizations of all site chemical wastes, proper packaging, marking and labeling of all site chemical wastes
- Inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping and regulatory compliance
- Inspects storage area for leaks or spills, participate in spill response as needed
- Make chemical pickups throughout customer facilities as directed
- Proper packaging of waste to maximize efficiency and maintain regulatory compliance
- Conduct chemical bulking/consolidation as required
- Safe loading and unloading of waste hauling vehicles
- Collects, segregates, and properly packages waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain regulatory compliance
- Conduct waste stream sampling and profiling as necessary
- Prepare all necessary tracking paperwork, and shipping documents
- Occasional overnight travel to various customer sites
- Oversee Compliance for Select Environmental
- Assist each department with compliance and regulatory issues
- Attend meetings if requested with sales’ prospects to address environmental programs and capabilities
- Meet with existing customers to review environmental programs and capabilities
- Update internal and external customers regarding environmental issues and regulations
- Monthly Compliance Monitoring
- Oversee monthly compliance requirements
- Alarm resolution and associated reporting
- Environmental recommendations for customers
- Annual testing assistance and support
- Oversee and assist with testing procedures for internal and external customers
- Develop and ensure SOP for all customers are on file and implement with testing vendor operations
- Review contractor testing invoices for meeting federal and state regulation requirements before submitting to accounting for payment
- Oversee testing failure reports and ensure action is being taken to resolve completely for all accounts
- Maintain working knowledge of equipment used in house for environmental compliance
- Maintain relationships to promote growth through our existing customer base and Wastelinq program
- Partner with Sales on company accounts to promote and grow environmental services account base.
Customer Oversight
- Oversee and manage various customer environmental requirements
- Conduct periodic site inspections as needed. Performs laboratory tests or other laboratory work using conventional and computerized machines and work aids.
- Performs laboratory work and tests according to prescribed standards.
- Determines chemical and physical characteristics or composition.
- Sets up, readjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Tests for such qualities as purity, stability, viscosity, density, absorption, burning rate, melting or flash point, etc.
- Tests solutions used in processes for chemical concentration, specific gravity, or other characteristics
- Tests for presence and content of elements, substances, or impurities.
- Collects and analyzes samples
- Tests samples to verify conformity to specifications
- Records test results and writes test reports describing procedures used
- Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment
- May prepare graphs and charts
Spill Response
- Oversee all spill response activities both internally and with 3rd party suppliers as necessary
- Coordinate carrier/customer reporting requirements
- Gather and review incident response forms
- Manage Spill Response portal and necessary reporting
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
The position is located in an outdoors environment frequent encounters dirt and dust, noise and vibration, fumes and odors and wetness/humidity. May be frequently exposed to mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. This position may require travel via vehicle and airplane. Employee may be required to sit for long periods of time. The incumbent frequently lifts up to 50 lbs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Working hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. This position may require long hours and weekend work on occasion. Given the widespread distribution of our customers, occasional overnight travel may be required.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Experience in hazardous and/or industrial waste handling preferred;
- Grade 4 Industrial Wastewater License preferred;
- 40 Hour OSHA, DOT and Forklift Training preferred;
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of RCRA, DOT, State, Federal and local waste rules, requirements and processes.
- Knowledge of State, Federal and/or local disposal facility special waste rules, requirements and processes.
- Ability to produce routine and accurate analytical reports by combining data from multiple sources and databases.
- Must possess effective written and oral communication skills
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving techniques and skills
- Ability to complete projects and assignments with minimal supervision.
