Oil and Gas Superintendent oversees daily oil and gas operations activities at multiple facilities. Supervises and directs employees involved in production, drilling, maintenance, and/or construction through foreman and other lead staff. Being an Oil and Gas Superintendent requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Oil and Gas Superintendent manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Oil and Gas Superintendent typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Geological Survey, located at 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO 65401.

    As an Environmental Program Supervisor for the Oil and Gas Unit, you will lead a team comprised of technical staff to develop, implement and manage an orphaned oil and gas well plugging program initiated by the Revive Economic Growth and Reclaim Orphaned Wells Act (REGROW) of 2021. In this position you will have numerous opportunities to work with other state and federal agencies while improving Missouri’s groundwater and air quality. You will support the core values of the Geological Survey Program which include Technical Competency, Service, Professionalism, Ingenuity, and Cooperation as well as the mission and values of the Division.

    What you’ll do:

    • Lead oil and gas activities in Missouri including implementation of a program to plug orphaned oil and gas wells through REGROW;
    • Ensure consistent application of the requirements and processes of the Oil and Gas Production law and implementing regulations;
    • Lead a team by coordinating and overseeing daily activities, training and coaching and by giving and receiving constructive feedback;
    • Coordinate with internal and external partners including state and federal agencies, private oil and gas producers, contractors and landowners;
    • Promote and actively engage in recognizing and rewarding team members; and
    • Promote process improvements and efficiencies within the Well Installation Section and the Geological Survey Program.

    All you need for success:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree and 4 – 6 years of relevant experience.
    • Valid Driver’s license

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Working knowledge of oil and gas well drilling and production technologies;
    • Education or job experience with emphasis on soils and/or geology;
    • Proficient in the use of computer applications including Microsoft Office, GIS and database management;
    • Experience reading, interpreting and implementing policies and regulations;
    • Good written and verbal communication skills;
    • Highly motivated; and
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize, delegate and manage projects.
