    Financial Analyst

    The Chelsea School Department seeks applicants for the full-time position of Financial Analyst.  Position is responsible for assisting the School Department’s Business Manager in monitoring the School Department’s budget and financial administration.

    A candidate for this position should have a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance and/or related field and three to five years of finance/budget related experience. Prior experience in financial analysis, with knowledge of finance/business management and general accounting principles. Be organized, efficient, and capable of meeting deadlines.

     

     

    Statement of Duties

    Position is responsible for assisting the School Department’s Business Manager in monitoring the School Department’s budget and financial administration.  Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties. 

     

    Essential Functions

    The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

    • Processes requisitions for goods or services for the District, as assigned.
    • Processes invoices and vouchers for other school departments, capital projects, etc., as assigned.
    • Monitors key cost drivers including special education, student transportation, utilities, health care, etc., to identify trends and make recommendation for cost containment.
    • Assists in the development of the annual End of Year Financial Report (EOYR).
    • Oversees student transportation functions in coordination with Business Manager.
    • Oversees student scholarship funds in coordination with Business Manager.
    • Oversees school activity accounts including managing QuickBooks or other tracking system and assists schools in correctly utilizing funds to meet student needs.
    • Monitors and maintains inventory for postage machine, fax, copier and office printers as well as the District’s Xerox accounts.
    • Responds to requests for information from management, vendors, staff and other interested parties.
    • Serves as team leader on special projects as assigned by the Business Manager including but not limited to significant capital projects, Business Office process improvements, Medicaid expansion, etc.
    • Additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Designee

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field
    • Three up to five years of experience with automated accounting systems in a school finance or similar position or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
    • Knowledge: Knowledge of public accounting and budgeting concepts, requisition, accounts payable, and auditing principles, practices and processes; Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards, and applicable Massachusetts General Laws, regarding finance and procurement. 

    • Ability: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, respect and preserve confidentiality, work independently and collaboratively, and meet deadlines.

    • Skills: Skills in the use of personal computers and software including financial software, word processing, and spreadsheet applications. Organizational, time management, and analytical skills. Analytical skills to assess current performance and improve processes. Attention to detail.

     

    Terms: The annual salary range is $50,000 – $70,000. Chelsea offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental insurance.  This is a 37.5 hour a week position, non-union.
