Occupational Therapy Director directs the programs and staff of the occupational therapy department. Sets and implements guidelines for occupational therapy programs. Being an Occupational Therapy Director monitors patient progress and treatment plans. May require an advanced degree. Additionally, Occupational Therapy Director typically reports to top management. The Occupational Therapy Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Occupational Therapy Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Program Directors are responsible for leveraging their expertise to develop, maintain and deliver education services to students through:
Creating and Maintaining core curriculum across the institution
Communicating and monitoring delivery of core curriculum
Preparing course plans and material
Delivering courses
Monitoring progress/attendance
Advising students
Recording grades and submitting reports
Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Director must have a Master's Degree, a current, unrestricted State of Florida Occupational Therapy Practitioner (OT or OTA) license and 5 years of clinical practice in the field of OT. Must also have the minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience and curriculum development, as well as familiarity with ACOTE Standards and accreditation processes. In addition, must have the minimum of one-year of full-time administrative experience, including the supervision of OTA practitioners.
