Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. The Occupational Medicine Director manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function.     Position Overview:

    This position will work with the site Health Service Manager to review and manage the existing occupational medicine program. This position shall determine which changes, if any, are required to maintain or bring the program into full compliance with current regulatory standards, OSHA, DOT, DOE, and best medical practice.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

    • Be responsible for the medical management of the site Occupational Medicine Program.
    • Review and standardize existing policies and procedures for all assigned occupational health services to assure consistency and quality.
    • Provide oversight and implement Occupational Medical Program and the Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. In this capacity, the Medical Director directs, interprets, implements, administers, reviews, and ensures compliance with applicable government regulations, DOE orders, and other applicable requirements.
    • Act as the Medical Review Officer (MRO) as necessary for successful implementation of the Drug and Alcohol Program.
    • Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of Occupational Medicine, serve as supervising physician for clinical staff, and provide counsel and guidance to management on associated issues.
    • Provide technical and management support in the procurement of additional external medical services should the need arise.
    • Interface directly with management, DOE, employees, and other stakeholders.
    • Participate in interface meetings between the Medical Directors from collocated facilities, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, and Health Physics personnel to discuss ongoing and planned work activities and to identify the chemical, radiological and physical hazards associated with the work.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Safety Systems and Services Manager.
    • Responsible for the proper documentation of phone calls, medical records, work status, and emails with regard to each case.
    • Coordinate with specialists as needed.
    • Coordinate FCE s to determine job capabilities.

    Requirements:

    • Be a graduate of an accredited school of medicine and meet the licensing requirements applicable to the state of Tennessee and any other location(s) in which they work.
    • Be board certified in occupational medicine with preferred 5 years of experience in an occupational health setting.
    • Be familiar with OSHA standards and DOE Orders (e.g., beryllium, asbestos, blood-borne pathogens) that apply to or are related to the Medical Program and conducting HAZWOPER, DOT, and fitness for duty physicals.
    • Experience as Medical Review Officer (MRO) as necessary for successful implementation of the Drug and Alcohol Program.
