Medicine Operations Program Director

  • Job Summary

    The Medicine Operations, Program Director provides high level administrative oversight for the Department of Medicine’s (DOM) diverse and large inpatient, procedural (catherization lab, endoscopy) and ancillary (e.g., echocardiography, dialysis, sleep services, etc.) operations at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC). Also leads and supports quality improvement and metric monitoring activities for DOM hospital-based operations. Collectively, these operations generate over $169 million in hospital patient care revenue, and the position manages a $42 million expense budget. This position supports, as needed, revenue cycle efforts in collaboration with central departments.

    Position provides administrative leadership support of DOM inpatient operations, which includes more than 189 inpatient beds discharging 11,000 patients per year across nine inpatient units. Collaborates with central hospital services and oversight departments, as well as hospital executive leaders, to facilitate efficient patient flow and to maximize inpatient capacity. Partners with DOM quality/safety/service leaders (physician, nursing and administrative) on performance improvement initiatives. Collaborates with the DOM and the Executive Director of JHBMC Ambulatory Services to support and grow ambulatory programs (currently generating ~115,000 visits/year). Aligns operations to meet the needs of patient care while also supporting the educational and research missions of the Department.

    Reports to the Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer of JHBMC and the Chief Administrative Officer of the DOM. Works as part of a leadership triad to include the Vice Chair of Inpatient Operations at JHH and Assistant Director of Medical Nursing Operations, as well as collaborates with various medical and clinical leaders across the DOM (including the Vice Chair for Quality, Safety & Service, medical directors of procedural areas, nurse managers of inpatient/procedure units, colleagues at JHH). Serves as part of JHBMC’s incident command center team.

    Qualifications

    • Requires professional level of knowledge in the healthcare field as normally acquired through completion of a Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Public Health or related field.
    • Five years of progressively responsible administrative management/leadership in a clinical setting, with at least three of those years in a supervisory capacity. Experience in the development and direction of the delivery of health services. Operational experience in advanced imaging and invasive procedural programs preferred. Experience in an academic medical center preferred.
    • Project management certification utilizing Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodology is preferred.
