Nursing Services Instructor is responsible for identifying training needs and planning, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of staff development programs within an assigned area of responsibility. Coordinates in-service training, continuing education, orientation, competency reviews, and other related training functions. Being a Nursing Services Instructor ensures compliance with all State and Federal guidelines for in-service education and new employee orientation. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Nursing Services Instructor requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Nursing Services Instructor occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Nursing Services focuses on the chronic and ongoing health and safety needs of the participants. The Nursing Services is required to build and maintain positive working relationships with personnel, people supported, families, and community members. The nurse will display respect to others through positive interactions, timely follow up, and professional communication.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Performs Medical GER review and follow up as needed in Therap.
    • Responsible for all aspects of creating, updating, teaching and supervising medication certification course, policies and passes.
    • Responsible for all aspects of teaching/supervising and completing correct and safe medication
    • Assists with annual plans and staff training.
    • Provide direct care to individuals, as assigned.
    • Assists in the completion of annual health assessments.
    • Responsible for overseeing daily medical treatments to individuals.
    • Responsible for additional duties and documentation as assigned.
    • Responsible for medical chart retention.
    • Ensures the monitoring and completion of all pharmacy medication reviews.
    • Monitors medication expiration dates and follows expired medication procedure.
    • Responsible for accurate and complete documentation on agency forms, i.e. physician orders, significant behavior reports and Therap documentation including: T-logs, GERs, seizure reports and appointments.
    • Provides a minimum of 20 hours of medication administration training to employees, including academic instruction and practical application.
    • Provides medication administration training/supervision to Medication Aide’s and UD (Unlicensed Diabetes Aide) including academic and practical application.
    • Provides (or assists with) employee training in the areas of: Bloodborne pathogens/OSHA regulations first aid, infection control, and other health related subjects as deemed necessary.
    • Provide information and implement to all staff regarding CDC guidelines assuring health and safety standards during pandemics, endemics, and developing public health-related situations.
    • Must maintain positive working relationship and open communication with agency personnel.
    • Promotes a team concept within the nursing and medical coordinator departments and with other agency areas to provide the best possible care.
    • Educate staff, people supported, and families using non-technical language.
    • Assess concerns by phone; give direction and delegation as needed.
    • Assist with monthly medication exchange and audits of MAR’s.
    • Follow controlled-drug policy and oversee the agency’s adherence to this policy.
    • Responsible for compliance with State Board of Nursing. Policies/Procedures and Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) Administrative rules of South Dakota (ARSD) regulations.
    • Performs on-call responsibilities as assigned.
    • Attends required meetings.
    • Excellent Communication skills, both written and orally, in a timely and professional manner.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelor Degree of Science in Nursing, preferred.

    • Two years of nursing experience.
    • Current RN/LPN licensure valid in the state of South Dakota.
    • Management experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
    • Ability to complete all ARSD training requirements within the required period of time.
    • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, which may include working weekends and holidays.
    • Ability to be responsible for 24-hour on-call coverage and respond to issues as necessary.
    • Excellent problem solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language adequately to respond to individual’s needs.
    • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing; listens accurately and responsively.
    • Responds to communication in timely manner and reviews e-mail and Therap daily.
    • Ability to see and hear in order to make assessments.
    • Holds a valid driver’s license and maintains a safe driving record. Ability to travel between multiple sites.
    • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, occasionally, which includes lifting objects and/or transferring people.
    • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, reach, and push/pull wheelchairs.
    • Ability to respond to emergencies in accordance with procedures and guidelines.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
    • Able to use a computer for required documentation, communication, scheduling, & assessments.
    • Ability to operate and maintain household, office, and facility equipment.
    • Passes a background check that meets organizations policy.
    • A negative result on a post-offer drug test.


    Benefits

    $23-$30/ hr DOE for 2 8 hour shifts plus potential on call options

    Salary: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour
