Nursing Services Instructor is responsible for identifying training needs and planning, implementing, and evaluating the effectiveness of staff development programs within an assigned area of responsibility. Being a Nursing Services Instructor ensures compliance with all State and Federal guidelines for in-service education and new employee orientation. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Nursing Services Instructor requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Nursing Services Instructor occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.   • Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Nursing Instructor.  Our Nursing Program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the Washington State Nursing Quality Assurance Board.  The program capitalizes on the use of modern technology, including utilization of high fidelity simulation.  The program serves up to 24 students in each year of the two-year program and maintains a low student to faculty ratio.

    This position is responsible for teaching in a variety of healthcare areas and situations through lecture, lab, and clinical instruction.  

    Salaries for nursing instructors are set at $107,346 for a 173-day contract. Nurse Educator salaries are funded, in part, from Legislative-approved funds under HB2158. Additional degrees, experience, and state-funded and negotiated increases will increase the salary.

    Primary responsibilities include but not be limited to the following:

    • Prepare and teach on-campus and off-campus lecture, lab and/or clinical instruction in nursing, especially in medical/surgical areas.  Teaching assignments are determined by college and program needs and/or the individuals background and experience and may include day, evening/night, online or occasional weekend classes and/or availability.        
    • Participate in the development, modification, and evaluation of curriculum to reflect current standards of nursing practice, including program purpose and student learning outcomes.       
    • Participate in classroom, program, and college-wide assessment. Maintain student records according to college guidelines.           
    • Foster student and community success by maintaining a flexible and inclusive learning and working environment with respect for student and staff diversity.
    • Support students' academic success by maintaining regular office hours and advising students;  assist students in degree planning and refer students to appropriate campus resources.
    • Maintain positive and effective communications with the healthcare education team, students, faculty, administration, and staff.             
    • Participate in campus governance through active participation on working committees.
    • Maintain or develop competence in current clinical practice and educational technology. 
    • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth, development, and conduct; implement a professional development plan.          
    • Assume other duties and responsibilities as defined and agreed upon by the administrator and the faculty member.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    At the time of application, all candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

    • A master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education OR a bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education with a graduate degree in a health or education-related field from an accredited college or university.
    • Candidates possessing a bachelor's degree in Nursing and currently enrolled in a MSN program or a graduate program in a health or education-related field at an accredited college or university with completion expected by March 2025 will be considered.               
    • A current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in Washington State or be able to attain prior to employment.
    • At least two years of full-time equivalent experience as a registered nurse or nurse educator and evidence of maintenance of clinical skills in nursing, particularly in medical and surgical areas.  Work experience must be recent - within the last seven (7) years.      

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Teaching experience in a community college or post-secondary setting.  
    • Experience with implementation of strategies to improve student success and retention through the use of innovative teaching methods such as flipped model, team teaching, or using "active learning" based curriculum.
    • Experience with data driven assessment.              
    • Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing, and other applications for instructional purposes such as PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

    COMPENSATION:

    Salaries for nursing instructors are set at $107,346 for a 173-day contract. Nurse Educator salaries are funded, in part, from Legislative-approved funds under HB2158. Additional degrees, experience, and state-funded and negotiated increases will increase the salary. 

    This is a union represented position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
