    The RN - Assistant Director of Nursing assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Services department to ensure the highest degree of quality patient care in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

     

    Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements:

     

    ·        ADN or BSN from accredited college or university

    ·        Currently licensed/registered in applicable State. Must maintain an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing throughout employment.

    ·        Two (2) years' geriatric nursing experience preferred.

    ·        Long term care supervisory experience preferred.

    ·        CPR certification upon hire or obtain during orientation. CPR certification must remain current during employment.

     

    Specific Job Requirements:

     

    ·        Ability to manage people.

    ·        Ability to communicate effectively, in writing, as well as verbally.

    ·        Ability to successfully relate and respond to the needs of management, employees, and residents.

    ·        Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

    ·        Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

    ·        Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients/residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the public.

    ·        Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.

    ·        Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult patients/residents.

    ·        Expert knowledge in field of practice

    ·        Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department.

    ·        Maintains a liaison with patients, families, support departments, etc. to adequately plan for patient needs.

    ·        Perform proficiently in all competency areas including but not limited to: nursing care, supervisory responsibilities, infection control, patient rights, and safety and sanitation

    ·        Maintains professional working relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.

    ·        Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information

    ·        Understand and follow company policies including harassment and compliance procedures.

    ·        Displays integrity and professionalism by adhering to Our Island Home’s Code of Conduct and completes mandatory Code of Conduct and other appropriate compliance training.

     

    Essential Functions:

    ·        Assist the DON in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Nursing Services department.

    ·        Assumes responsibility for Director in his/her absence. Assists in the overall supervision and provision of optimal achievable quality of nursing care in the health care facility.

    ·        Assists nursing staff in effectively accomplishing their duties. Trains, support, assists in staff education as needed.

    ·        Communicates effectively with the Director of Nursing and discusses any problems or concerns regarding clinical operations of the department.

    ·        Acts as a resource person in all areas of resident care.

    ·        Ensures that nursing services are scheduled in accordance with patient needs and within nursing services budget.

    ·        Assists in the education of facility nursing policies and ensures implementation of these policies.

    ·        Assists in nursing competencies.

    ·        Interview, select, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise nursing staff.

    ·        Assist with overseeing care provided by nursing staff.

    ·        Oversee infection control responsibilities.

    ·        Provide direct nursing care as necessary.

    ·        Perform functions of a staff nurse as required.

    ·        Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients.

    ·        Assist in the evacuation of patients.

    ·        Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.

    ·        Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment.

    ·        Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team.

    ·        Sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours.

    ·        Responsible for coaching nursing employees to support positive behavior and interactions with others.

    ·        Assists Director of Nursing with disciplinary concerns.

    ·        Makes efforts to recognize, educate and train employees and encourage promotional opportunities.

    ·        Assist in employee’s growth to increase retention and employee satisfaction.

    ·        Promotes a culture of safety in the nursing department. Assures there is thorough investigation of injuries and efforts made to prevent further injuries.

    ·        Communicates effectively with DON and discusses any problems, needs, or concerns.

    ·        Assumes responsibility in supporting DON in promoting and maintaining positive employee relations and effective communications among facility staff.

    ·        Provides on-call support to the nursing department as scheduled by DON.

    ·        Meets with residents and their families as needed to discuss concerns and makes every effort to meet their needs/desires.

    ·        Other duties as assigned by the DON or Administrator
