Nursing Director administers the nursing program in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical facility to maintain standards of patient care. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Being a Nursing Director recommends establishment or revision of policies and develops organizational structure and standards of performance. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Additionally, Nursing Director requires an advanced degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management. Requires RN license. The Nursing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Nursing Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     POSITION:

    The Director of Nursing assumes full time administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. Manages facility employees in the provision of care and services according to professional standards of nursing practice, consistent with facility philosophy of care and county, state and federal laws and regulations. Develops and implements policy and procedures consistent with current law and best nursing practices. In collaboration with the Administrator, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable each resident to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being. Collaborates with other departments, professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop support and coordination of resident care, related administrative functions and to represent the interests of the facility.

    REPORTING:
    This position is responsible to the Administrator.

    Exempt

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

     Education:

    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

    License:
    Current, active license as a Registered Nurse

    Work Experience:
    • 3 years professional nursing experience in long term care setting preferred
    • 2 years administrative experience in nursing service administration or comparable management
      experience
