Nursing Director administers the nursing program in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical facility to maintain standards of patient care. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Being a Nursing Director recommends establishment or revision of policies and develops organizational structure and standards of performance. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Additionally, Nursing Director requires an advanced degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management. Requires RN license. The Nursing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Taconic Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing at Hopewell, in Fishkill, NY, is seeking an Activities Director to become a member of our elite Taconic Mission Makers team. Our nursing and rehab facilities are rated among the highest in the nation and are comprised of Mission Makers who are compassionate, dependable, courteous and informative.     RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents (i.e. physical, cognitive, and socialization factors) in carrying out activity programs.
    • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to carry out activities for residents with the following needs: therapeutic, neuro & dementia, dialysis, IV therapy, and infectious diseases if applicable.
    • Development of monthly activities schedule based upon individual and group needs, interests and capabilities which is accessible to residents and staff and can be easily read.
    • Utilize Point Click Care (“PCC”) to Identify and document the activity interests, participation, response to activities program, needs, and concerns of the resident in the care plan. Review and update care plan as necessary but at least quarterly.
    • Documents all interaction with resident and/or family in the assessment, care plan and progress notes as required by federal and state requirements

    • Provides statistical information as required by the NYS DOH.
    • Acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and attends all resident care conferences (or designee)
    • Resident Council liaison
    • Demonstrates ability to adjust to changes in unit/shift assignments to meet resident and family needs.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of and complies with the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program when performing work functions.
    • Responsible for the selection of safe and adequate space, equipment, and supplies needed for the operation of the activities programs.
    • Responsible for the selection and evaluation of activities.
    • Functions as the facility volunteer coordinator (interviewing, scheduling, recruitment, retention, recognition).
    • Assigns duties and supervises all activities, staff and volunteers.
    • Participates in public relations/marketing/community relations events.
    • Maintains attendance records for resident activities, on a daily basis.
    • Responsible for use of Activities Van
    • Keeps an up-to-date Kardex of residents’ birth dates. Development of organizational procurement strategy and plans, including investment, resource and skill requirements
    • Is aware of, and adheres to, Resident’s Bill of Rights and Confidentiality of Resident Information
    • Interacts with residents, family members, co-workers, clinical and ancillary staff in a non-judgmental, supportive, and calm manner
    • Addresses resident and family satisfaction issues immediately by reporting them to the Supervisor in a professional manner
    • Identifies actual or potential problems and devises an action plan for resolution. Implements solutions and monitors outcomes using judgment skills to choose the best course of action.
    • Is aware of Resident Abuse Reporting Law
    • Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude
    • Recognizes, removes, and/or reports potential hazard
    • Follows established safety rules/accident prevention
    • Follows universal Precautions and Infection Control techniques.
    • Addresses residents in a respectful manner. Interacts positively with residents, family members, and visitors under a variety of conditions and circumstances.
    • Maintains HIPAA privacy, security and confidentiality standards. Discusses confidential resident information in appropriate areas only
    • Actively participates in Quality of Life Subcommittee and other committees as directed by the Administrator.
    • Sets high standards, seeking to “raise the bar”, exhibits commitment to strive for and exceed expectations.
    • Fosters a spirit of teamwork and positive attitude.
    • Effectively communicates, assists, and cooperates with other personnel and interdisciplinary teams. Utilizes conflict management skills to move toward resolution of interpersonal challenges that affect the work environment negatively.
    • Provides direction for surrounding staff members, assisting them to perform their workload independently, acting as a role model relative to professionalism, attitude, communication and personal presentation.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Approved by the NYS DOH as a qualified trained activity leader or occupational therapist, therapeutic recreation specialist, occupational therapy assistant or recreation assistant.
    • All Certifications to work as a Director
    • College Degree
      • Must be at least 18 years of age
      • Must possess a valid drivers’ license
      • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and/or holidays
      • Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team
      • Must present a positive image of the facility
    • Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required.
