Nursing Director administers the nursing program in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical facility to maintain standards of patient care. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Additionally, Nursing Director requires an advanced degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management. Requires RN license. The Nursing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     Position summary:  Manages and oversees all aspects of nursing service and supervises nursing staff at Memory Care Assisted Living.  Meets all regulatory requirements and maintains quality nursing care within budget.

    Works cooperatively and respectfully with residents, coworkers, families, visitors, and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in the home. Promotes the residents' psychosocial well-being through meaningful relationship building, and works with the household team to meet other social service needs of the resident and of the household, always providing support, friendship and kindness for each of the household members. All tasks are performed in accordance with current standards, policies, guidelines and regulations and in a safe and efficient manner.

    Essential skill and experience:

    • Graduate of an approved school of nursing; current Tennessee license to practice as a registered nurse.
    • Computer proficiency, including word and excel
    • Leadership, a demonstrated ability to lead people in a positive manner and achieve results.
    • Excellent management experience.
    • Three years Medicare Skilled Nursing experience
    • Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; strong interpersonal relations, and communicative skills; auditory and visual skills; satisfactory completion of post-offer, pre-employment physical as required
    • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

    Preferred skill and experience:

    • A minimum of five year’s prior experience management preferred
    • Three years experience in geriatrics preferable.

    Reporting to this position: All nursing staff

    Essential Duties:

    1. Determine the kind and amount of nursing care needed to meet the needs of the resident and to achieve the objectives of the nursing home.
    2. Develop a nursing organization structure.
    3. Responsible for all Licensed Nurse staffing and payroll.
    4. Coordinates the PAE/PASRR process with Culture Change/Staff Development and MDS.
    5. Oversees and manages Memory Care.
    6. Assign responsibility and delegate authority.
    7. Carry on continuous evaluation of needs and services as concerns nursing care.
    8. Work with nursing personnel to continually upgrade and improve nursing care to residents.
    9. Develop a nursing care plan, with MDS Coordinator, for each resident and insure that this plan is reviewed and revised as necessary.
    10. Participate in the selection of prospective residents in terms of the nursing service they need and the capability of the facility to supply the needed service.
    11. Works with nurses on skin assessment and treatments to reduce skin breakdown.
    12. Coordinates with the MDS Coordinator to monitor resident medication and reduction of psychotropic medications.
    13. Work with consultants (dietary, psych, pharmacist, etc.) and as necessary implement recommended changes.
    14. Participate in MDS/Care Plan meetings  and Quality Assurance Committee.
    15. Encourage and facilitate further study and experience gaining activities for professional nurses.
    16. Assist charge nurse in carrying out their assignments.
    17. Review complaints and reports to Administrator.
    18. Participate in policy planning for personnel and patient care; reviewing and updating at least annually.
    19. Projects the nursing budget needs to the Administrator.
    20. Perform supervisor responsibilities including:  interviewing, orienting, evaluating, disciplining and discharging employees according to Company policy.
    21. Attend in-service and supervisor training.
    22. Coordinates with MDS and Eden/Staff Development in facilitating staff education.
    23. Coordinates with Administrator and Executive Director with the facilities Assessment
    24. Serves as the weekend Registered Nurse as needed and nursing on call provider
    25. May serve as the Infection Control Preventionist  monitoring the Antibiotic Stewardship program
    26. Any other duty as directed by the Administrator/Director of Health Care Services.

    3. Fully understand all aspects of residents’ rights, including the right to be free of restraints and free of abuse.  Responsible for promptly reporting to Administrator incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of residents’ rights, following abuse procedure.
    4. Must execute nursing service to meet Uplands objectives
    5. Must coordinate with management team to ensure effective nursing service standards.
    6. Must develop nursing policies and controls to ensure nursing compliance according to State nursing standards.
    7. Comply with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from harassment and illegal and discriminatory behavior.
