Nursing Director administers the nursing program in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical facility to maintain standards of patient care. Advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Being a Nursing Director recommends establishment or revision of policies and develops organizational structure and standards of performance. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Additionally, Nursing Director requires an advanced degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management. Requires RN license. The Nursing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Nursing Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Responsibilities:

    The Director of Nursing oversees the daily direct nursing care services for patients of the facility, using resources effectively and efficiently to attain and maintain the highest level of care in accordance with regulatory standards. Other responsibilities include:

    • Oversees all regular and PRN nursing staff, including doing hiring, training, & termination; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and motivating the nursing team; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
    • Manages & maintains the nursing schedule, including building PRN depth to ensure coverage
    • Monitors to ensure all nursing duties are carried out
    • Oversees the Intake Team
    • Implements the training program
    • Manages facility infection control system and procedures
    • Serves as the Risk Coordinator
    • Oversees incident reporting procedures
    • Oversees facility interaction with toxicology laboratories & pharmacies
    • Ensures seamless service experience for all patients
    • Is able to perform all duties & responsibilities of the staff nurses (and demonstrate strong nursing skills)
    • Serves as “Manager on Call” periodically
    • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with everyone including employees, management and external agencies
    • Does additional duties as assigned
    • Reports directly to the Executive Director

    Qualifications

    • Active State Registered Nurse License
    • ADN from an accredited institution
    • BS/BA preferred
    • 5 years of experience in nursing in a mental health setting preferred
    • 2 years of experience in a managerial role
    • Experience in chemical dependency fieldpreferred
    • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
    • Excellent verbal and written communication
    • Be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs
    • Personal passion or interest in substance abuse issues strongly preferred
    • Commitment to drug-free lifestyle and responsible alcohol use is essential
    • Authorization to work in the US is required
