Nurse Practitioner - Surgical works in collaboration with hospital physicians to manage care for patients in a surgical setting. Provides direct care and follow-up for patients in surgical care units. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Surgical orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Surgical requires a master's degree. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Primary Responsibilities
The NP is responsible for practicing the nursing profession ethically, dutifully, and according to and within the Scope and Standards of Practice of the Texas Board of Nursing. The NP is responsible for Provider-level care coordination, as outlined in the Texas Independence Health Plan (ISNP) Model of Care, for all ISNP Members.
The NP is generally expected to be in his/her facilities during customary working hours (approximately 8:00am – 5:00pm) to ensure that these facilities have adequate Provider-Level coverage to meet patient/resident/member health care needs while also allowing the NP to have adequate time for documentation, and rotational weekday/weekend on-call responsibility.

Experience Requirements
The NP is licensed as both a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Texas. The NP maintains an up-to-date Board Certification in his/her specialty.
The NP is responsible for maintaining a Texas Statutory Prescriptive Authority Agreement with attending Physicians and/or Medical Directors and for maintaining Texas Board of Nursing ongoing educational requirements for licensure and re-certification.
The NP will comply with all State and Federal guidelines required to practice as a licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, including maintaining an active RN and APRN license. The NP will maintain Professional Medical Malpractice Liability Insurance.
