    Per Diem position
    Position Summary: Provides care and treatment to patients under the supervision of the attending physician(s) in accordance with established guidelines. This Mid-Level Provider is assigned to the neuroscience service for the purpose of providing patient care under the supervision of the attending physicians.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
    • Obtains health histories and assesses the patient in order to determine healthcare needs.
    • Performs physical examinations.
    • Orders routine laboratory/diagnostic tests and adjusts treatment plan as appropriate.
    • Makes tentative diagnosis about management and treatment of patients.
    • Counsels patients in relation to their health needs.
    • Orders consultations and interacts with specialty medical teams.
    • Maintains continuing professional education, licensure, and accreditation.
    • Assures medical records are concise, accurate and legible.
    • Contributes to customer satisfaction and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
    • Performs other related duties as required and directed.
    • Demonstrates clinical judgment, risk and problem recognition, and differentiation of urgency.
    • Monitors and adjusts treatment plans ass required for patient’s care or as requested by overseeing authorities. Recognizes and responds to patient signs/symptoms requiring intervention. Reports significant observations to the surgeon of record and other pertinent physicians, team members and administration.
    • Complies with Stroke Network stroke protocols, transfer protocols, neuro critical care protocols and discharge planning parameters.
    • Proficiently assists physician in surgical/invasive procedures, as requested.
    • Rotates on-call as assigned to cover special needs of service line patients.
    • Attends and participates in all pre and post-operative care as needed or requested by the surgeon and/or endovascular proceduralist of record which is within scope of practice allowed by licensure and Medical Center guidelines.
    • Demonstrates the successful judgment and ability to serve, as appropriate, the unique needs of various patients(s) age groups, adult and geriatric:
    • To assess, evaluate and treat patients served.
    • To understand and react effectively to unique needs.
    • To produce successful age-related clinical interventions
    Qualifications:
    Required:
    • Graduate of an accredited educational program for Physician Assistant OR Nurse Practitioner program.
    • Licensure for Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to practice within the State of Michigan.
    • Completion of medical staff credentialing and privileging process through McLaren Macomb.
    • BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

    Preferred:
    • Prior Nurse Practitioner experience
