Nurse Practitioner - Pediatric works in collaboration with physicians to manage care for patients in a pediatric setting.     Job Summary:

    • Position Summary:
    Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer and the supervision of a Physician, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner works as part of the medical provider team, providing medical services to the patients of the community health center. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners provide primary care services as licensed independent practitioners in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and SC Board of Nursing Standards of Care. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will actively participate in the implementation and evaluation of the Patient Centered Medical Home using team-based care to achieve improved health outcomes as well as improved patient experiences.

    • Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

    • Develops rapport with patients striving to build a patient partnership that facilitates marked familiarity with patients medical and treatment history, care needs, and psychosocial factors as a means to manage patient’s risk factors and improve patient outcomes.
    • Provides primary medical care by caring for patients 0-18 years old in accordance with the medical specialty.
    • Develops a plan of care for each patient including complete medical history, examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization where necessary.
    • Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures.
    • Confers with consulting physicians, nurses, specialists, and patient’s family concerning treatment and care of patient.
    • Establishes an effective working relationship with public and private physicians and other clinical re referral resources.
    • Attends all medical staff meetings and participates in the community health center’s Q/A program.
    • Performs other necessary duties as required by the community health center to meet the goals of providing primary health care.
    • Consulting and educating parents on how to care for their child.
    • Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.
    • Provides outpatient care in the clinic.
    • Refers those cases which require specialist services, but maintains responsibility, assuring that continuity of care if provided.

    • Ability to acquire considerable knowledge of the policies, procedures and programs.
    • Ability to comprehend, interpret and apply basic laws and regulations to specific situations.
    • Ability to assist in the development of department administrative directives as required.
    • Ability to assist in investigative analysis and make effective recommendations as required.
    • Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate and informative reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations as required.
    • Ability to prepare clear, accurate and informative reports of progress of organizational units, results of research and reviews, and annual reports of accomplishments, future goals, and objectives.
    • Ability to work effectively with associates, as well as with supervisors, in the various units of the organization.
    • Ability to work in a team relationship.


    Experience/Education Required:

    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
    • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
    • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure
    • Current Pediatric Nurse Practitioner certification.
    • Current provider CPR
    • Two (2) years’ experience preferred.
