Nurse Practitioner - Oncology works in collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to manage care for patients in an oncology setting. Provides quality care in all settings for cancer patients, families and staff. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Oncology orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Oncology assesses patient condition and may provide treatment using specialized medical equipment. Requires a master's degree. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. - JOB SUMMARYThe Nurse Practitioner – Ambulatory Services is involved in all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. He/She may work in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Generally, the Nurse Practitioner – Ambulatory Services performs important tasks such as educating patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments. He/she may also conduct physicals, order tests, prescribe medications per state and federal law, and may serve as a patient's primary healthcare provider.
- EDUCATION
- Graduate of a Graduate School of Nursing.
- LICENSURE
- Valid license as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of West Virginia.
- EXPERIENCE
- Prefer minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility/clinic in area of specialty.
- CERTIFICATION
- Must have met certification requirements as mandated by West Virginia state regulation and the West Virginia Board of Nursing.
- Healthcare BLS validation required within 60 days of employment, with revalidation per AHA guidelines thereafter; ACLS preferred.
- COMPUTER/TYPING/MATH SKILLS
- Standard office and medical equipment with emphasis on electronic health records, as well as various clinical equipment that may be used to carry out the duties of the position.
- Excellent computer skills are necessary to perform various job duties in the clinical area.

- Knowledge:
- Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
- Knowledge of specific tasks related to particular medical practice.
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
- Knowledge of federal, state and other regulations affecting physician assistants.

- Skill in performing nursing and nurse practitioner responsibilities appropriately.
- Skill in managing time, maintaining timely patient and process flow.
- Skill intact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Abilities:
- Ability to learn and retain information and work independently.
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
- Ability to not deviate from scope of practice allowed by state/federal regulation
