Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal works in collaboration with a physician to assess the physical needs of newborn patients. Provides care for newborns and infants in a neonatal setting. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Neonatal requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a physician. Requires Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in specialty area based on RN licensure and state authority for advanced practice.     • Attend deliveries of high-risk neonatal patients, admissions and rounding to include well baby
    • Care for neonatal patients requiring ICU level care, developing plans of care
    • Perform procedures including intubations, line placements, lumbar punctures, chest tube insertions.
    • Provision of patient and family centered care.

    Job Specifics:

    • Full time, M-F 3pm- 11pm
    • Average patients per day: 2
    • Average Well baby patients per day: 8
    • 8 beds, open bay
    • 2 Pediatricians on site at all times.

    Company Description

    Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UMBWMC), a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), is looking to add a Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NP) to our Level II Special Care Nursery located on BWMC’s campus in Glen Burnie, MD for PRN shifts.

    Our Level II Special Care Nursery cares for out smallest patients who are babies as young as 32 weeks, including those with respiratory and feeding difficulties or those that might require antibiotic or IV therapies. Located in the mother/baby unit we are staffed around the clock by pediatricians and neonatal nurse practitioners and help families welcome over 2,000 births per year.

    Qualifications
    • Master of Science degree with completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program required.
    • Board Certification Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
    • Required experience of 3 years in, Level II or Level III, Level IV NICU
    • Current state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner required. 
    • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
    • Current NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E certification or obtained prior to providing direct patient care is required.
    • DEA and CDS eligible.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.  Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs. 
    • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters.  Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills.
    • Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training.
    • Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area.
