Nurse Practitioner - Hospitalist works in collaboration with hospital physicians to manage care for patients with stable and chronic illnesses. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Hospitalist prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Makes patient rounds. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Hospitalist plans and coordinates rehabilitation, home health care, and follow-up services for patients with acute health issues. Requires a master's degree. Requires Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.     Reports To: Medical Director
    Supervises: N/A

    Entry Level Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in Nursing.
    • Holds a current license in good standing in the State as an NP.
    • 2 years experience in a behavioral health, mental health, or psychiatric facility.
    • Complete TB testing upon being hired.
    • Complete and be within the requirements of Background and Drug screening results.

    Physical Requirements:

    1. Must be able to stand continuously in increments of 45 minutes to 1 hour.
    2. Must be able to physically assist a disoriented or intoxicated patient of average weight of 140-170 lbs from the floor to a chair or bed.

    General Responsibilities:

    • Plan and implement primary care service delivery to patients per healthcare plan and written protocols.
    • Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary care, including counseling and referral within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Work under the direction of the psychiatrist to perform assessments, medication management, evaluation, and ongoing treatment of clients.
    • Adhere to the general provisions of 42 CFR Part 2, “Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records”; and 45 CFR “Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act”. This position has unrestricted access to patient health information.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Evaluate and assess medical issues, behavioral health problems, comorbid conditions, and/or the need for detoxification.
    2. Consult with the psychiatrist and behavioral health staff in designing treatment plans for clients.
    3. Document patient information on medical charts and follow physician’s written orders.
    4. Assist clients with understanding emotional disturbances and accept the need for treatment.
    5. Administer and document patient reaction to psychotropic drugs and other medications.
    6. Prescribe appropriate medications and treatments under the guidance of the Medical Director.
    7. Monitor the effectiveness of clinical interventions.
    8. Assist in the development and implementation of a treatment plan related to detoxification and/or any other medical issues.
    9. Monitor clients and maintain a safe, protective environment for the clients.
    10. Develop positive, supportive relationships with all clients.
    11. Assist clients in developing and implementing healthy lifestyle programs.
    12. Implement treatment plan interventions as needed for physical health.
    13. Participate in and required performance improvement plans.
    14. Utilize all available means to communicate effectively and efficiently with the treatment team.
    15. Complete medical/nursing documentation according to licensing standards.
    16. Keep thorough and current documentation on all clients.
    17. Stay informed regarding current drug abuse and treatment information.
    18. Work closely with the entire treatment team, including the program psychiatrist, in providing and coordinating treatment for all clients.
    19. Assist in providing medical and clinical information for concurrent reviews or other insurance matters.
    20. Provide educational lectures to clients and families on medical aspects of substance use disorders.
    21. Perform all other duties as assigned.
