    To assess, treat, solve problems, counsel, educate and refer patients seen for primary or acute care in the clinic/related department, utilizing advanced assessment and evaluation techniques. Must demonstrate competent clinical skills; utilize critical thinking to identify and meet patient needs; achieve positive patient outcomes through group process; display leadership traits that contribute to attainment of patient and departmental goals; assist with unit QI/research projects; identify actual legal/ethical issues and implement appropriate nursing actions.

    Responsibilities

    Assess health status and health potential: plan, implement and evaluate health care needs of the patient/family. 1. Plan, manage and evaluate therapeutic regimens for patients, consulting with physician(s) and other members of the health care team, including school officials. 2. Plan, teach and counsel patients regarding current health care status and the signs and symptoms of illness. 3. Assess growth and development of the patient. 4. Perform clinical and therapeutic procedures. 5. Assume a leadership role in developing nursing care policies and procedures for the unit. 6. Assist with planning and monitoring quality improvement/control for the unit. 7. Perform history and physical examination, and record data. 8. Identify normal and abnormal findings, and consult as needed with physician to determine the plan of treatment. Patient Care: 1. Demonstrates consistent use of nursing process in daily practice and manages more complex patients with minimal assistance. 2. Knowledge and Skills: Identifies personal learning needs to be competent in area of practice; independently performs advanced skills; begins to assist others to develop skills using the teaching/learning process. 3. Professional Relationships/Leadership: a. Initiate and effectively demonstrate behaviors which result in positive patient outcomes through group process; b. Identifies need to change own practice based on PI/QI outcomes. 4. Quality Improvement/Research: Expands understanding of research process and the specific application to nursing practice.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Common Duties and Responsibilities (Essential duties common to all positions) 1. Maintain and document all applicable required education. 2. Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations. 3. Comply with the company's attendance policy. 4. Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution. 5. Perform work in a cost effective manner. 6. Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations. 7. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.
