Nurse Practitioner - Ambulatory Care works in collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to manage care for patients in an ambulatory care setting. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Being a Nurse Practitioner - Ambulatory Care prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Assesses patient condition and may provide treatment using specialized medical equipment. Additionally, Nurse Practitioner - Ambulatory Care works in outpatient settings, responding to high patient volumes in short-term spans and dealing with unpredictable situations and issues. Major Responsibilities
Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of Physician.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient's condition.
Discusses case with Physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
Submits health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by Physician.
Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
Refers patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
Practices standard precautions and disease-specific precautions by proper utilization of handwashing and personal protective equipment.
Practices strong nursing autonomy in patient care while coordinating care with an ED MD.
Triages patients while obtaining vital signs, a thorough history, and a nursing assessment.
Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
Delegates within scope-of-practice to other clinical staff.
Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment and examination of patient.
Maintains awareness of dignity, comfort and safety needs of patient.
Always provides excellent patient care.
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies provider of patient's condition as well as any changes to the patient’s condition, reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Must be BLS, ACLS and PALS certified and competent. Must be comfortable running “codes”
Manages patient flow within the center by utilizing effective communication with all disciplines.

Initiates a thorough patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the provider and/or policy including patient and family instruction.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications
Bachelor’s of science degree in nursing (BSN).
Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) programs, also are available by combining 1 year of an accelerated BSN program with 2 years of graduate study.
NCLEX-PN
BLS, ACLS and PALS certified
Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Competence with computer use and EMR.
Proficient at intravenous access for blood draw and drug administration.
Working Conditions
Center-Based. Requires working in a clinical setting. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. The ability to stand and sit for hours at a time, (with some bending and stooping), ability to use manual dexterity in relation to clinical requirements, and ability to lift 50 lbs.```Duties```
