JOB SUMMARY
The Oncology Nurse Navigator is a registered nurse who provides individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to overcome barriers within the healthcare system and facilitate access to all of the resources available to patients. The ONN acts as a link between patients and care providers to facilitate clinical and supportive care services. The role is that of a single point of contact among referring physicians, patients, and other clinical caregivers for the purpose of empowering patients in dealing with the disease and the treatment. The ONN facilitates patient appointments for diagnostic procedures in the laboratory, imaging, and other specialty areas. The ONN would also support staff and provide coverage in the infusion area as needed utilizing the nursing process to manage, coordinate and provide individualized care of patients of all ages, adult and geriatric.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; frequent bending, reaching, stooping, crouching and stretching required during the normal course of the day. The employee must exert 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation. Requires normal/corrected vision and hearing to normal range. The work involves recurring exposure to moderate risks which require special safety and health precautions and the use of Personal Protective Equipment; risks such as exposure to contagious diseases, contaminated bodily fluids, sharp instruments, and other contaminants.
