    Requirements

    1. Experience: Experience in the oncology program system and departments of the hospital required.  Must have experience in Biotherapy/Chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions administrations, iron administrations.
    2. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
    3. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to form strong alliances with referral and resource agencies in the community. Ability to provide holistic care for patients with education and information about their illness. Knowledge of legal and professional guidelines and scope of practice. Expert knowledge in medical, surgical, and radiation oncology. Clear and persuasive communication skills among all levels and audiences. Comfortable in role as troubleshooter or problem solver.  Competent IV skills & use of central lines (Ports & PICCS), peripheral blood draws & blood draws from Ports & PICCS, & phlebotomies.
    4. Licenses/Registrations/Certifications: Current WA State RN license. Current BLS from the American Heart Association.  Biotherapy/ chemotherapy certification. OCN preferred but not required.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Oncology Nurse Navigator is a registered nurse who provides individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to overcome barriers within the healthcare system and facilitate access to all of the resources available to patients. The ONN acts as a link between patients and care providers to facilitate clinical and supportive care services. The role is that of a single point of contact among referring physicians, patients, and other clinical caregivers for the purpose of empowering patients in dealing with the disease and the treatment. The ONN facilitates patient appointments for diagnostic procedures in the laboratory, imaging, and other specialty areas. The ONN would also support staff and provide coverage in the infusion area as needed utilizing the nursing process to manage, coordinate and provide individualized care of patients of all ages, adult and geriatric.

    WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; frequent bending, reaching, stooping, crouching and stretching required during the normal course of the day. The employee must exert 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation. Requires normal/corrected vision and hearing to normal range. The work involves recurring exposure to moderate risks which require special safety and health precautions and the use of Personal Protective Equipment; risks such as exposure to contagious diseases, contaminated bodily fluids, sharp instruments, and other contaminants.
