Nuclear Medicine Technician provides diagnostic aid to physicians by conducting organ or body scans on patients. Administers and records isotope dosages in accordance with established departmental protocol. Being a Nuclear Medicine Technician observes patients during procedures and reports any abnormal activity. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Nuclear Medicine Technician typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. Requires registration with the Nuclear Medicine Technology certification Board, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.), or the American Society of Clinical Pathology.     This is a full-time, day shift position. Shift hours are from 7a to 3:30p, 40 hrs/wk.

    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides thorough processing of all diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures and is responsible for maintaining and complying with the guidelines of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Orders and/or prepares the appropriate radiopharmaceuticals
    • Performs highly technical nuclear medicine procedures and utilizes computers to process and manipulate patient data to attain exam results
    • Maintains proper records to assure the department operates within the guidelines established by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
    • Records patient results on the proper media
    • Performs quality control procedures on all nuclear medicine cameras, dose calibrators and well/probe counters
    • Manipulates complex mathematical formulas to calculate decay of radiopharmaceuticals and their biological half lives, and compounds complex drug kits, which may follow difficult and precise patterns of production
    • When working in the Mobile Nuclear Department may be required to drive Mobile Coach or other hospital vehicle to rural facilities to perform job duties.

    Reports to the Lead Nuclear Technician.

    This position may have additional or varied physical demand and/or respiratory fit test requirements. Please consult the Physical Demands Project SharePoint site or contact Risk Management/Employee Health for additional information. Daily exposure to low level radiation from sealed sources, patient doses, patient dose administration, and dosed patients in addition to occasional exposure to higher levels of radiation from the administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals. Some exposure to patient blood, other bodily fluids and vector borne pathogens. Must be able to work in excess of 8 hours per day/40 hours per week and participate in the on call roster. May be required to wear universal protective clothing.

    • Gradation from an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology
    • Registration the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
    • Bachelors degree
    • This job requires the incumbents to operate a INTEGRIS owned vehicle OR personal vehicle (non INTEGRIS owned) and therefore must have a current Oklahoma State Drivers License as well as a driving record which is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
