  • GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs both imaging and non-imaging procedures on patients and/or patient samples using radioactive tracers. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the safe and correct handling of radioactive materials, the care and operation of radiation detection equipment, knowledge of Nuclear Medicine procedures, the appropriate computer analysis to generate a patient result, and patient care. Follows the guidelines for specific age and culture-related physical, intellectual psychosocial and developmental attributes in assessment planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Follows Corewell Health philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care at all times.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    1. Verifies patient identification and physician order.

    2. Performs and processes all Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures by adapting protocols to patient conditions while exhibiting hospital established customer service behaviors.

    3. Prepares and dispenses radiopharmaceuticals according to protocols with adherence to nuclear regulatory guidelines.

    4. Performs quality control checks on radiation detection equipment and associated patient care equipment. Meets all requirements for compliance and proper documentation of information related to patient care.

    5. Teaches specific anatomy, physiology and clinical protocols at the clinical level for nuclear medicine students while still maintaining clinical patient care responsibilities.

    6. May train Nuclear Medicine students as they rotate through the department.

    7. Continuing education credits and all competencies for patient care are maintained. Teaching of Nuclear Medicine principles to all who interact with patient care is an on-going process.

    8. Research responsibility for all current projects in the department is expected.

    9. Responsible for call coverage for the department.

    10. Places IV’s as required for injections, monitors patient during examination while in the Nuclear Medicine department.

    11. Ensures equipment is wiped down between patient and exam room is clean and properly stocked with supplies.

    12. Uses effective inter/intra-departmental communication and participation with medical staff, management, technical and support staff.

    A. Education / Training:

    · Graduate of Joint Review Committee on Education in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCEMNT) accredited program

    B. Work Experience:

    · Training gained at student level.

    C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:

    · Certification by The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and/or American Registry of Radiology Technologist ARRT(N); Must remain in good standing with the NMTCB.

    D. Other Qualifications:

    · Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/ Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers at hire through the American Heart Association and/or the American Red Cross
