Nuclear Medicine Director directs and coordinates all aspects of nuclear medicine. Sets policies and procedures for administering radioactive isotopes and therapy to treat and diagnose patients. Additionally, Nuclear Medicine Director typically reports to top management.     Performs clinical and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures by administering the prescribed pharmaceutical and obtaining the requested data. Has the latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to complete the requested procedure within the scope of his/her license.

    JOB STATUS: Casual, requires on-call hours

    What are the Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements?

    • Possess or be eligible for a valid current Nuclear Medicine license/certificate. This will be either an RT(N) registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or NMTCB certification through the Society of Nuclear Medicine Technical Section Board examination.
    • Current BLS certification.
    • Able to perform electrocardiographs (EKGs) (training provided)
    • Proficient in venipuncture for injection of radiopharmaceuticals.
    • Ability to successfully complete general orientation and the clinical skills guides of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
    • Able to read, write and speak the English language sufficiently to communicate accurate and tactful explanations to people who may be under some stress and to maintain all necessary record keeping.

    What are the Critical Demands of the Job?

    • Must be able to handle multiple demands and make decisions about priorities.
    • Must have the ability to assist in the transfer of patients from wheelchair or stretcher to the Nuclear Medicine equipment.
    • Must be able to type/keyboard to process the acquired data for Nuclear Medicine procedures.
    • Ability to lift floor to waist level – 15 pounds.
    • Ability to lift waist level and above – 10 pounds.
    • Ability to carry objects up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
    • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, reaching overhead and reaching forward.
    What are the Working Conditions?
    • Works in a Nuclear Medicine laboratory setting.
    • Some limited exposure to small amounts of ionizing radiation.
    • Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
    • Works with a variety of complex electronic and computerized diagnostic.
    • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients for Nuclear Medicine procedures. Lifts supplies and small equipment associated with the above.
    • Handles phone calls and patient care demands often at the same time.
    • Pleasant progressive acute care environment committed to family-centered care.
    • Conditions may be stressful at times.
    • Must be able to tolerate wearing protective gear (including, but not limited to, barrier gloves, moisture impervious lab coats, protective eye wear, and face shields).
